bluesign Approved: J-Long Extends Certification to Webbings, Ribbons & Woven Labels

Our woven labels, webbings and ribbons are now bluesign® approved. Together with heat transfer, J-Long holds bluesign approval across three product categories — 28 certified articles in total.

For apparel brands, that means the logo, the drawcord and the woven label can come from a single certified source.

What does bluesign® approved mean?

Founded in Switzerland in 2000, bluesign sets a global benchmark for responsible textile production. The bluesign System takes a holistic approach across the supply chain, covering chemical safety, resource efficiency, environmental impact, and occupational health and safety.

Rather than testing a finished product and hoping it passes, bluesign controls what goes into production. This approach — known as input stream management — eliminates hazardous substances at the very beginning of manufacturing. It ensures safe, compliant production without compromising durability, protection or performance.

Approval is granted at article level, not company level. Each certified article is assessed individually and listed publicly in the bluesign Guide.

Which J-Long products are bluesign® approved?

bluesign approved heat transfers and patches

Reflective and non-reflective transfers, reflective ink transfers, printed reflective transfers, TPU patches and silicone patches — available in flat, raised and 3D constructions. The silicone patch range includes a PFAS-free option.

bluesign approved webbings and ribbons

Woven tape, drawcord and webbing in polyester and polyamide, including recycled and elastane variants, plus options with metal or plastic cord ends and printed webbing.

bluesign approved woven labels

Woven labels, tapes and badges in polyester and polyamide, including printed, reflective and recycled polyester options.

Recycled options are available across both polyester and polyamide in the tape and label ranges.

Why bluesign® certification matters for apparel brands

Substantiated sustainability claims. From September 2026, the EU's Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition directive requires environmental claims to be backed by accessible evidence. Certification provides that substantiation.

Chemical compliance you can evidence. Brands carry liability for restricted substances they cannot directly observe several tiers down the supply chain. Input stream management prevents problems rather than detecting them after production.

Faster supplier onboarding. Certification covers restricted substances, water and energy use, emissions, worker exposure and labour standards — assessed on site, so brands do not have to duplicate that work.

Retail visibility. Retailers including REI let customers filter by bluesign, making certification a condition of discoverability rather than only a marketing asset.
